Village News Reaches 10 Year Milestone
Village News celebrates its 10th year of business in 2003. Started in an oceanfront bungalow summer rental cottage in 1993, several friends have nurtured the concept of having the newspaper delivered to vacationers’ doorsteps over the past ten years. Village News offers the following papers with daily, weekly, and summer rates: USA Today, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, The Washington Times, The New York Times, Richmond Times-Dispatch, The Virginian-Pilot, Daily Press, and Outer Banks Sentinel. Vacationers receive flyers in their check-in packets and can order from home or when they arrive on the beach. The current owner of Village News, John Gibson, came on as Vice Pres. In 1994 to help start the advertising department, expand the delivery through South Nags Head, and commence the Full Summer Newspaper Delivery program (homeowners pay to have their choice of newspaper delivered to their rental home for their renters. In 1998 John Gibson became the sole owner and has worked hard during the last five years to increase all of Village News’ subscriptions. With over ___________ weekly orders from vacationers, ____________ full-summer orders, and __________advertising accounts John is extremely pleased with his company’s performance. “What a better way to celebrate a 10-year anniversary than a record year!” Gibson says. Gibson is proud of the personalized “on-the-porch” service Village News offers and the repeat customers the company has. The same Vacationers have been ordering for years and make it the first thing they do when they arrive on the OBX. “With many of our customers we have become to know them by name,” Gibson says. But more than anything on its 10-year anniversary, Gibson would like realtors and new and repeat vacationers to keep in mind: “Newspaper delivery from Village News saves valuable vacationing time!” |
